About this eBook

Most product marketing leaders can describe their competitive position in detail. Ask which buyer conversations a named competitor is running unopposed, by persona and funnel stage, and the reports they rely on can't answer. Keyword parity and asset counts confirm that content exists. They don't show who owns the conversation.

This eBook gives product marketing and demand gen leaders a competitor content analysis framework built for that question. You'll learn how to map your own coverage by persona and stage, read competitor content for repeated tension framing instead of topic overlap, trace why your own framing drifts and close the gap by building every asset from governed positioning. It ends with a 30-minute self-test you can run with your team.

What's inside

  • The coverage illusion your metrics can't see: why keyword and traffic reports confirm presence but never show whether your narrative occupies a buyer's conversation.
  • How to map buyer coverage at the persona-stage level: a five-step method to score every persona and funnel stage as occupied, present but not occupying, or empty.
  • How to turn competitor content into a coverage signal: a structured read that shows when a competitor is claiming a buyer conversation on purpose.
  • Why your own messaging drifts: how positioning that lives in a reference document gets reinterpreted at every handoff between strategy and execution.
  • How to make positioning inherited, not consulted: what changes when every campaign asset is built from the same governed foundation.
  • The 30-minute self-test: three ten-minute diagnostics to run with your team before your next launch cycle.

The TL;DR

  • Presence isn't occupancy. Content reports show that an asset exists for a buyer, not whether it shapes how that buyer sees the problem. That gap is where competitive deals are lost.
  • Map by persona and stage. A persona-by-stage coverage map shows which buyer conversations you occupy, which you're only present in and which are empty. An asset inventory can't produce that finding.
  • Read competitors the same way. Topic overlap tells you little. When a competitor opens asset after asset for one persona with the same tension, they're claiming that conversation on purpose.
  • Your gaps aren't a talent problem. When positioning lives in a reference document, every asset starts from someone's interpretation of it, and the framing drifts.
  • The fix is structural. Make positioning the source each asset is built from. Paysafe reported 3–5x faster campaign delivery, 75% less review time and 3–4x more persona-based content after making that shift.
